A report issued this week by RPC shows the continued strong growth of online sales. RPC analysed sales over the last year amongst the UK’s 20 biggest online-only retailers. During this period revenue has soared by almost a quarter (23%) reaching a combined £8.4 billion in 2016/17, up from £6.8 billion in 2015/16.
RPC’s research also highlighted the growing importance of the e-commerce channel to traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers. The report found that last year Marks & Spencer’s online sales rose by 6%, compared against their retail store sales that saw a rise of just 1%.
